CAMPO DEL CIELO - LOOSE - SMALL

  • $10.00

Specimen: Campo Del Cielo

Locality: Argentina

Size: Small, loose*

Campo del Cielo refers to a group of iron meteorites that struck down in Argentina nearly four to five thousand years ago. The crater field covers an area roughly 18.5 by 3 kilometers in size and contains upwards of 26 craters locations, making this the largest recovery site of a meteorite in known existence. The approximate age of Campo is believed to be 4.5 billion years and is a part of the development of our local solar system.

Though the first reports of the specimens were recorded in 1576, Campo was already well known and used by the aboriginal peoples of Argentina. Since its formal discovery, hundreds of large pieces have been recovered weighing from a few milligrams to 34 tons.

*Price is per individual piece unless noted. Due to the natural variations of each piece, please note that the actual item you receive may not appear exactly as pictured. Rest assured, however, that our dedicated team will do their best to hand-select the most attractive specimen(s) that we have in stock at the time of your order. Sizes and weights are always approximate.
